About
So, it all started way back in 2005, when my Lord of the Rings obsession was relatively new. I had tried-and failed-twice to make a website dedicated to my obsession. Finally, I made up my mind to try again-3rd times' the charm, right?-and I created a fledling website on Geocities-The Light of the Evenstar. It was, at first, a very small site-there was an index, a site page, a media page, and a links page. I think that's about it. Obviously, not what we have now!
Seeing as how all I had when I started was the MS Paint program, the site was not very good. I was immensely proud of it, although I had built it with the Pagebuilder that came with Geocities (and continued to do so until I moved to my new host, and was forced to learn how to code in Notepad). However, looking back, I can see why the site was a problem-the images were, sometimes, huge, with fading IE-only CSS filters. The links were images scattered randomly around (the layout was different on every page) and sometimes didn't work. The pages were messy.
I might have given up if it wasn't for my first affiliate-a wonderful site named Minas Anor, which, sadly, seems to have closed. The fact that someone liked my site enough to affiliate with me gave me the encouragment to continue poking at the website.
My webdesign skills improved, and as I became more involved in the online world, more people began to visit my site. As it grew (it was still, basically, a media site) I began to realize that I could no longer stay at Geocities. I passed my bandwith limit quite often, and I simply did not have enough space. I began to look for a new host, and I found Distilled-Spirits.net, owned by Emily. She agreed to host me, and I stayed there happily for a year. 2006 was, I'm sorry to say, a bad year for TLotE. I updated very rarely, and then I ran into some very big problems.
In August, Distilled-Spirits disappeared off the web. I lost my website, so no one could visit it. At the same time, my computer crashed and I lost nearly all my files (the ones I had afterwards were stored on a different computer). With no backup and no host, I was forced to start from scratch. And that's where the history of this website leads up to- a new revamped version, now hosted by my friend Steph, owner of Crowned-Meadow.net. The site is about the same size as it was before the crash, but most of the content-expecially in the media section-is new.
I hope you like this website, and I hope you enjoyed reading this interesting little bit on the history of The Light of the Evenstar. ^.^
