About Anglo-Saxon Literature
Anglo-Saxon literature originates from England and southern Scotland. It is sometimes known as "Old English literature". Old English was one of the first vernacular languages to be written down. Some of the most important survivng works of Old English literature are: Beowulf, an epic poem; the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, a record of early English history; and Caedmon's Hymn, a Christian religious poem. There are quite a few prose works as well, but poetry is the general style. Almost all Old English authors are anyonymous except for a few, such as Bede and Caedmon.
